Cargo operations re-open in Kyiv

AirBaltic has cooperated with Ukrposhta to organise a multimodal mail transport system and thus reopen cargo operations from Kyiv. The first mail shipment from the Ukrainian capital arrived in Riga on 12 April. Since then the company has handled more than 7,000 mail bags weighing more than 50 t.

Martin Gauss, the Latvian carrier’s CEO, said that “we’re doing our best to help Ukraine. A regular Kyiv–Riga trucking line from Ukraine now feeds our flight network to major European hubs and beyond."

In May the airline also wet-leased a Boeing B737-900ER from its reliable long-term partner Ukraine International Airlines (UIA), to fly in the AirBaltic network in the short term. Gauss added that "by temporarily wet-leasing this UIA aircraft we’re also providing short-term jobs to the airline’s employees." (ah)
