Cargo growth at SC Inland Ports

In October 2023, SC Ports’ Inland Port Greer reported a record handling of 17,000 containers, marking a 42% increase from the previous year. Inland Port Dillon also saw a significant uptick, with a 31% rise in the number of containers processed.

To accommodate growing demand, SC Ports is expanding Inland Port Greer to double its capacity and enhance rail services.

The upcoming Navy Base Intermodal Facility in North Charleston will further boost cargo throughput to these inland ports when it opens in 2025.

While SC Ports experienced a 9% decline in teu volumes year-over-year, there was a resurgence in loaded container volumes, with the Wando Welch Terminal reaching a historic high in October. Vehicle handling dipped by 10% year-over-year, but cruise passenger numbers increased. SC Ports also initiated the development of a new community centre in North Charleston. (pb)
