BUD Cargo City expanded

Budapest airport has opened a 10,000 sqm extension to its warehousing facilities in its main airfreight handling hub BUD Cargo City, complete with offices and operational infrastructure. This strategic initiative aims to augment the airport's annual cargo capacity by 40% to 300,000 t.

The expansion comes at the right time to meet current demand. Budapest airport has officially joined the ranks of airports managing an annual cargo volume exceeding 200,000 t (it handled 201,300 t in 2023). This achievement represents a 3.8% rise compared to 2022 and an impressive leap of 49% compared to 2019. Cargo traffic showed a particularly dynamic increase in Q4/2023, which continued into January 2024. (cj)
