Brazil’s rail operators to receive new locos
USA-based manufacturer Wabtec is introducing a new locomotive model to Brazil’s railfreight market with deliveries of 25 ES44ACi diesel-electric locomotives to Suzano, MRS and Rumo expected for the coming days.
The introduction of the new vehicle type provides Brazil’s railways with improved performance on their journey towards decarbonisation. This engine technology enables the locomotive to reduce fuel consumption and emissions by more than 5% compared to its predecessor.
Operators worked together for eight years to bring the ES44ACi locomotive to Brazil’s rail market. The objective is to improve Brazil’s heavy-haul rail network and drive sustainability. (ben)
