Bombshell: Liège fires Partoune

Liège airport in eastern Belgium, now one of Europe’s largest cargo hubs, dismissed its CEO Luc Partoune (left) with immediate effect on Tuesday, 9 February 2021. Partoune had been the airport’s chief executive since 1994.

He is accused of serious irregularities, including the awarding of projects without official tendering procedures. Partoune has been replaced, on an interim basis, by Frédéric Jacquet, who had been his deputy since July last year.

Jacquet knows the aviation industry well, for he was government commissioner for the two Walloon airports Liège and Charlerois for several years. Jacquet: "There is no shortage of challenges: Fedex, Cainiao, the transport of vaccines,... With my appointment, we will continue to pursue our ambitious commercial and social objectives and our efforts to protect the environment." (amh)
