Biggest megaship carries more than 19,600 boxes
On its maiden voyage from Asia to Europe, the hitherto biggest ultra large container vessel "HMM" Algeciras carries 19,621 teu, which is a record load. The total capacity of the ship is higher, though. At maximum capacity, the ship can carry slightly more teu than its predecessor "MSC Gülsün": 23,964 teu versus 23,756 teu.
The South Korean vessel was completed at Daewoo Shipping & Marine Engineering’s Okpo shipyard on 24 April 2020. It is some 400 m long and 61 m wide. On Wednesday 3 June, "HMM Algeciras" will call on Rotterdam during its maiden voyage. (mw)
