Big plans for Poti in Georgia

Poti Sea Port, the largest gateway in Georgia for exports, imports and international transit, is being enhanced by its Danish management company APM Terminals. The hub recently witnessed the maiden call of the new ‘Poti Türkiye Feeder’ service (PTF) from Istanbul by the shipping line Zim. This direct service expands the gateway’s options between Turkey and Georgia. The 925 teu ‘Contship Joy’ deployed will operate between Turkish ports and Poti Sea Port on the basis of 12-14 days.

Poti also serves trade connections to Armenia, Azerbaijan and Central Asia. The expansion of Poti Sea Port, in which APM Terminals plans to invest USD 170 million, began in 2022, and will be completed in 2024. The expansion project will see an 1,800 m breakwater developed and a quay with a depth of 13.5 m established, as well as a 400 m multipurpose berth for dry bulk cargo. The new berth is expected to have a capacity to handle 9,000 teu container ships. (sh)
