BGL: drive transition at an impasse

Germany’s Federal Association for Road Freight Transport, Logistics and Disposal (BGL) has called for further efforts to improve the framework conditions for the climate transition in road freight transport. Less than one per 1,000 of all trucks in Germany are electric.

Efforts to switch drives to electric power in the road haulage sector have reached an impasse. BGL says that the EUR 30 billion from the CO2 toll must be reinvested in climate-friendly road haulage for the programme to pick up speed. Bureaucracy must be reduced, and subsidies must be increased.

A nationwide refuelling and charging infrastructure with at least 10,000 publicly accessible charging points for e-trucks and more parking spaces must also be set in place, BGL added. (ben)
