Australian steel for inland rail network

Construction work on the 1,700 km long inland rail freight line between Melbourne and Brisbane (both Australia), is making progress. Some 14,000 t of Australian steel have been delivered to the site for the Parkes to Narromine section of the track.

The delivery of Whyalla steel coincides with construction ramping up on 5.3 km of brand new track to connect the existing Broken Hill line to the inland rail network, as well as existing regional and rural rail lines.

Once completed, the AUD 9.3 billion (EUR 5.9 billion) inland rail track will enable the use of double-stacked, 1,800 m long trains with a 21 t axle load that can run at a maximum speed of 115km/h.  (ben)
