Another way of Californication
The Japanese container shipping company Ocean Network Express (ONE), headquartered in Singapore, has signed agreements to acquire a 51% stake in two terminals on the US West Coast - Tra Pac and Yusen Terminals (YTI).
MOL and NYK as well as Macquarie Infrastructure Partners will retain a minority share. Both units are container terminal operators and vessel stevedores, with Tra Pac operating in Los Angeles and Oakland and YTI only in Los Angeles.
The acquisitions are part of the strategy to integrate the container shipping businesses from the parent companies into ONE. The closing of these transactions is subject to the green light of the relevant authorities. (sh)
