Another five years at GCIA

The Gary / Chicago International Airport (GCIA) will expand its initial contract with cargo service giant United Parcel Service (UPS), which began air cargo operations at the airport in November of 2020. The initial deal was concluded in May 2020.

The agreement announced on 15 November essentially resets the airport’s 2020 contract with UPS and extends it for another five-year term, potentially keeping UPS at GCIA until 2040.

In early October, GCIA held a groundbreaking ceremony to kick off the USD 24 million “phase 1” expansion of its cargo logistics sector. At the end of phase 1, it will have positions for eight wide-body aircraft. When the entire cargo logistics project is completed, it will provide space for up to 18 wide-body aircraft. (cj)
