Another collaboration on hydrogen
The Japanese carrier MOL, its dry bulk affiliate and Japan Engine Corporation (J-ENG) are running a joint pilot testing a hydrogen-fuelled engine on an in-service vessel.
The ship will be operated by MOL and MOL Drybulk, and the low-speed, two-stroke hydrogen-fuelled marine engine — a technical innovation —will be developed by J-ENG in cooperation with Kawasaki Heavy Industries and Yanmar Power Technology. It will be the world’s first main engine for large ocean-going or coastal vessels.
The MOL Group aims to deploy net zero emissions ocean-going vessels in the 2020s and achieve net zero GHG emissions by 2050. (sh)
