Anniversary train delivers 453 t of bananas

Government ministers were on hand to flag off the 1,000th trip of Central Railway’s Kisan Rail link (farmer’s rail) in India. The train from Savda to Adarsh Nagar (Delhi) had 23 wagons with 453 t of bananas on board.

So far, 345,000 t of farm produce has already been transported by the Kisan Rail link, launched in August 2020. The connection is an Indian government initiative to support small and medium-sized farmers to transport agriculture produce to markets economically and quickly.

A 50% reduction is on offer to transport perishables by Kisan Rail, which currently runs more than 1,600 trains on more than 60 lines. (ben)
