Amazon's new commitments in India

At this year’s Smbhav Summit, Amazon announced new initiatives to boost India’s digital economy and exports. Firstly, the company signed an MOU with India Post for a cross border logistics solution to support the exports of micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs).

Indian exporters on Amazon’s global selling programme will be able to book, print labels and pay for shipping directly from their seller central account.

Additionally, Amazon is engaging with Indian Railways’ dedicated freight corridor corporation to enable its sellers to deliver faster across India. Amazon is the first e-commerce company in the country to use this corridor for shipping customer packages through freight railway routes. Operations on the 659 km Haryana-Gujarat route have already begun.

Amazon has pledged to digitise 10 million MSMEs, generate USD 20 billion in e-commerce exports and create 2 million jobs in India by 2025. (mk)
