Amazon drone delivery takes off in Arizona
Amazon customers in the West Valley of the Phoenix metro area are now receiving Prime Air drone deliveries from the Tolleson, AZ, same-day delivery site. Since starting drone delivery in 2022, Amazon has shipped thousands of items to customers in less than an hour.
In 2023, the company also began distributing prescription medications in partnership with Amazon Pharmacy to customers in College Station, Texas. Earlier this year, Amazon announced that it had hit its fastest Prime delivery speeds ever in the USA and around the world, with more than 5 billion items arriving the same or next day globally.
Amazon is now taking the next step in its Prime Air journey by launching FAA approved drone deliveries in the West Valley of the Phoenix metro area. Customers who purchase an eligible item weighing 2.3 kg or less in this region can have it delivered by drone in under an hour. The future FAA approvals will allow Prime Air to further expand drone deliveries and lay the foundation to safely scale operations to more locations in the country. (cj)
