
African airlines double up efforts
Ethiopian Cargo & Logistics Services, the freight division of Ethiopian Airlines which celebrated its 74th anniversary on 8 April, has extended its reach to 74 destinations. During March, Ethiopian transported 45,848 t of cargo deploying both its freighters and PAX fleets, including 86 B777F charters each with a capacity of 100 t carrying medical supplies & healthcare products.
SAA Cargo also operates PAX aircraft for a pure cargo uplift. On 6 April, for the first time in its history, the freight division of South African Airways, an A340-600 transported essential goods between Johannesburg and Frankfurt. The outbound cargo included perishables and automotive and aircraft parts. Inbound shipments consisted of Covid-19 testing kits, protective equipment and processing equipment for food. (ah)
