A win-win agreement in South Africa

Sasol and Transnet Freight Rail (TFR) have inked a public-private partnership to improve railfreight reliability in South Africa. Under the five-year agreement, Transnet will deliver ammonia from Sasol’s Secunda and Sasolburg facilities to the company’s customers with a fleet of 128 ammonia tankers.

In turn, Sasol will fund Transnet’s maintenance and repair programme for the fleet. The company produces and sells more than 540,000 t of ammonia annually.

TFR is Transnet’s largest operating division. It provides the rail network infrastructure and operates rail services in South Africa linking the country’s ports, freight terminals and production hubs. (ben)
