A very short trip in Alaska
A DC-3 from Transnorthern Aviation made a very short flight last Wednesday, 8 December 2021, after experiencing a loss of engine power. According to Alaska chief of the National Transportation and Safety Board Clint Johnson, no one was injured in the emergency landing of the aircraft built in 1952.
The plane, which departed Anchorage International Airport (ANC), bound for Kodiak airport (ADQ), came down while landing gear was still up on runway 7 of the downtown airport Merrill Field (MRI).
Anchorage mayor Dave Bronson praised the pilots who "demonstrated incredible skill and control of the plane after losing power in one engine. Our team at Merrill has worked to get the plane off the runway and is cooperating with the National Transportation Safety Board." (ah)
