A milestone in Taranto
With the completion of the head of the Molo San Cataldo almost two months ahead of schedule, RCM Costruzioni of the Rainone group adds another facet to the redesign of the seaport of Taranto, Italy.
The project implemented by the Port Authority of the Ionian Sea comprises adapting a section of the multi-purpose pier, also creating new runways for the quay cranes and dredging the seabed for a depth of 20 m. In the presence of the Italian minister for territorial cohesion, Giuseppe Provenzano, the completion was jointly inaugurated.
The works, which involved an area of more than 8,000 sqm, were necessary due to the advanced state of structural degradation in the south-east portion of the pier adjacent to the head. (mw)
