A freight train as fast as a high-speed passenger train
Russian Railways (RZD) and Russian Post have started a trial to test an express container train service to the port of Novorossiysk. The first train left Vorsino, south of Moscow, on 1 October, and arrived in Novorossiysk on the Black Sea coast a day later.
The express train ran almost twice as fast as a conventional container train, namely at 140 km/h, like a high-speed passenger train. The maiden train with 20 container platforms delivered 80 large-capacity containers. In Novorossiysk, the railway service connects to express shipping lines to India, the UAE and countries in Southeast Asia, RZD said. (ben)
