A challenging year for Swiss Post


Financially, 2023 is a challenging year for Swiss Post. At CHF 165 million, the operating result as of mid-2023 was CHF 129 million below the previous year's figure.

 

Alex Glanzmann, Swiss Post’s chief financial officer: "With digitisation, letter volumes and over-the-counter payments are in decline. Subdued consumer confidence means that fewer parcels and promotional mailings are being sent."

 

Profit fell by CHF 141 million. Postfinance and the mobility services unit also failed to match the previous year's result.

 

However, Swiss Post is well on track with the implementation of the "Post of Tomorrow" strategy 2021-2024. It is based on the following pillars: 1) growth and development, as shown in the new e-voting system; 2) sustainability: since February 2023, Swiss Post has been delivering letters and parcels in Zurich and Berne using only electric vehicles. The other two pillars are pricing measures and efficiency improvements. (mk)
