3D simulator for crane operations installed

The Duisburg free port has introduced its own crane simulator. With Professor Thomas Schlipköther, executive board member at duisport as project manager, the crane simulator was assembled in the USA and meticulously adapted to the requirements and conditions of the port of Duisburg.

The crane was made by the American company Globa lSim, which is headquartered in Salt Lake City. When using the simulator, employees operate crane facilities in a virtual environment that mirrors a real crane and the actual topography of the Duisburg port.

The so-called “piggy-back simulation” is especially designed to meet the requirements of inland ports. An instructor control station is in constant contact with the system and the user. (mw)
