100 robots, one warehouse

More than 100 autonomous mobile robots have been put into operation at DB Schenker’s new contract logistics hub in Rudna, Czechia.

The highly automated facility features robotisation, seven packing lines with 162 stations, a vertical order picker and an automated sorter. These will be used to support the 650-odd employees on the site in the completion of physically demanding or monotonous tasks.

Each robot can be loaded with up to 500 kg. They are organised in a conveyor line-up totalling 3,000 m. When their three-hour batteries begin to run out of power, the robots can drive to a charging station and return recharged within a few minutes.

The purpose of the system is to take pressure off the employees of the site, improve efficiency and speed up goods throughput. DB Schenker expects to deliver up to 59 million products from the hub per year. (mk)
