This marks the seventh consecutive year in which the company has been profitable. The profit increase of 11% is attributed to significant growth in the cargo sector, with cargo volumes rising to over 46,000 tons.
The increase in cargo capacity was supported by 15 weekly cargo flights to mainland China and three weekly connections to Hong Kong. These developments strengthen the airport’s position as an important trading hub in the United Kingdom. Airport CEO Matteoni commented on the results: „Cargo volumes have quadrupled over the past year, reflecting the successful implementation of our strategy to position the airport as a leading cargo hub in the United Kingdom.“
Investments in infrastructure and services
To support growth in the cargo sector, the airport has invested in various infrastructures. This includes the development of cold chain capacities, the establishment of a dedicated terminal for e-commerce, and improvements in handling capabilities. In the first six months of 2026, approximately 1,780 tons of Scottish salmon were exported.
The airport’s Terminal E has now processed over 33 million packages, with Royal Mail and Evri establishing their operations there to ensure direct handling from the airport to the last mile. Additionally, investments have been made in cold storage facilities with a capacity of 87 tons to meet the demands for temperature-sensitive goods.
Growth in the cargo sector has led to the creation of over 250 direct jobs. The airport follows an integrated operating model that includes aircraft handling, cargo processing, refueling, and air traffic control.
Recognition and outlook
As part of the Logistics UK Awards, Glasgow Prestwick Airport was named „Air Freight Business of the Year,“ highlighting the airport’s growing role in air freight and Scottish exports. Looking ahead, the airport anticipates further growth as it plans to expand capacities for scheduled cargo flights, enhance e-commerce handling, and invest in specialized infrastructures for perishable goods, pharmaceuticals, aerospace, and high-value cargo.
