Karl Gross celebrates 150 years of logistics
May 20, 2026 at 1:07 PMThe Agility Logistics Park (ALP) in Tema, Ghana, has received EDGE Advanced certification for energy- and resource-efficient buildings. This is the 17th facility of Agility to achieve this certification worldwide. According to the global logistics provider, it is an important recognition of the company’s efforts to offer sustainable logistics solutions.
The EDGE certification (Excellence in Design for Greater Efficiencies) is awarded by the International Finance Corporation (IFC), part of the World Bank Group. To obtain the Advanced certification, buildings must achieve a reduction in energy consumption, water usage, and embodied carbon in materials of at least 40% compared to conventional local buildings.
The Agility Logistics Park in Ghana covers an area of 160,000 m² and is located in the Tema Free Zone, near the port and the capital city, Accra. The park provides warehouse space to international standards for multinational companies as well as local businesses. All five warehouses within the ALP in Ghana are certified as EDGE Advanced.
The warehouses in the ALP in Accra offer average energy savings of 68% and water savings of 38%. Additionally, they use construction materials that contain 63% less embodied carbon than comparable buildings on the market.
Charles Gassoub, Vice President of Agility Africa, commented on this award: “Achieving the EDGE Certificate demonstrates our commitment to developing energy- and resource-efficient facilities in line with global sustainability standards. This brings direct benefits to our customers, including reduced operating costs and improved operational efficiency.”
Nathalie Kouassi Akon, Director of the Ghana Division of the IFC, emphasized the significance of this certification, stating: “The EDGE Advanced certification of the Agility Logistics Park in Tema demonstrates the strong trend towards green buildings in Ghana and the critical role that the private sector plays in this transition. By significantly reducing energy and resource consumption, projects like this not only lower operating costs for businesses but also contribute to Ghana’s development goals and long-term economic resilience.”
Five comparable facilities in Africa
Agility Logistics Parks are secure, connected complexes with high-quality warehouses equipped with advanced engineering and sustainability features. In addition to the 160,000 m² park in Ghana, Agility operates a 470,000 m² park in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, a 320,000 m² facility in Maputo, Mozambique, and a 270,000 m² park in Lagos, Nigeria, which is currently in development. There is also the 270,000 m² Yanmu East logistics park in Cairo, Egypt, which is part of a joint venture with Hassan Allam Utilities.
Geoffrey White, CEO of Agility Africa, stated: “Having each of our warehouse parks in Africa certified as EDGE Advanced is an integral part of our strategy to develop a network of secure and efficient warehouse parks across the continent. The growing portfolio of Agility warehouse parks delivers an essential part of the fundamental infrastructure required for both global and local businesses.”
Providing international standard ready-built warehouses for companies to lease for storage, distribution, e-commerce, packaging, processing, and light manufacturing makes it easier for businesses to expand or enter new markets, reducing their capital requirements and time to market. Agility warehouse parks make African markets more attractive and competitive.
