Hapag-Lloyd aims to promote women with ‘Shefarer’
May 18, 2026 at 1:19 PMEnvirotainer, a provider of secure cold chain solutions for temperature-sensitive pharmaceuticals, has announced a partnership with Cathay as part of the Corporate Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) Program. This collaboration aims to promote the use of sustainable aviation fuel in air freight and reduce the emissions associated with Envirotainer’s global deliveries.
Under the agreement, Envirotainer will purchase at least 100 tons of verified emissions reduction credits, equivalent to approximately 12,000 US gallons (45,000 liters) of SAF, which will be used within Cathay’s operations. SAF is considered a key solution for reducing emissions in aviation, offering over 70% carbon savings over its entire lifecycle compared to conventional jet fuel. The fuel is produced from waste feedstocks such as used cooking oil and household waste and can be blended with conventional fuel without changes to aircraft or infrastructure, although availability remains limited.
Kuntal Baveja (right), Regional President APAC at Envirotainer, emphasizes: „The Asia-Pacific region is not only an important market for us but also an area with a growing focus on sustainable pharmaceutical logistics.“ By participating in Cathay’s Corporate SAF Program, a crucial step is being taken to reduce emissions on a large scale while ensuring the precision and performance that customers rely on.
Aymeric Chandavoine, CEO of Envirotainer, states: „Reducing emissions in our supply chain is not a future ambition – it is an immediate responsibility.“ He adds that the partnership with Cathay enables the active promotion of sustainable aviation fuel and demonstrates that sustainability and the safe, reliable delivery of vital pharmaceuticals do not have to be at odds with each other.
As part of Cathay’s Corporate SAF Program, certified SAF is used within the network, and the associated environmental attributes of the SAF are allocated to participating companies according to an industry-recognized attribution model. This approach helps organizations address indirect emissions from air freight and business travel.
Dominic Perret, Director Cargo at Cathay, explains: „We view sustainable aviation fuel as one of the most effective levers to support the decarbonization of aviation. However, meaningful scaling requires more than just the efforts of airlines – it necessitates collaboration across the entire air freight value chain.“ Through the Corporate SAF Program, Cathay collaborates with like-minded partners such as Envirotainer to support the adoption of SAF and accelerate progress toward a more sustainable future for air freight.
