Hupac Group achieves positive result in 2025
Apr 29, 2026 at 8:16 AMCargoBeamer has taken over the operation of the existing terminal in Kaldenkirchen. The company is now responsible for the operational management of the site, which was previously under a different operator. Alongside ongoing operations, construction work is taking place to expand the area, which aims to create the first CargoBeamer terminal in Germany. The commissioning of the first phase of this expansion is planned for early 2027, as the company reports.
The company has been offering an intermodal service between Kaldenkirchen and Domodossola for several years. This service allows for the use of non-craneable semi-trailers on rail. With currently 20 weekly round trips, this service is reportedly one of the most frequently used in the intermodal sector in Europe. At the Kaldenkirchen site, the semi-trailers are handled with reach stacker equipment.
Technological innovations and capacity expansion
The introduction of CargoBeamer technology is expected to enable fully automated and horizontal handling of all types of semi-trailers. This technological shift is projected to double the annual capacity of the terminal to approximately 140,000 loading units starting in 2027. Upon completion of both expansion phases, the terminal’s capacity is expected to exceed 200,000 loading units per year, according to CargoBeamer, which represents more than three times the capacity prior to the expansion.
