Mar 5, 2026 at 12:12 PMThe International Air Cargo Association (TIACA) has announced that Glynn Hughes will step down from his position as Director General. Hughes, who was appointed in February 2021, has held the role for five years. TIACA is now searching for a successor but has not yet announced a specific date for Hughes‘ departure from office.
In a webinar, Hughes expressed that he might remain involved with TIACA in another capacity to support the next generation of leaders in the industry. He emphasized that his successor will inherit a strong foundation and a dedicated global community, and he is confident that this individual will pursue TIACA’s mission with commitment and determination.
Prior to his role at TIACA, Hughes served for six years as the global head of cargo at the International Air Transport Association (IATA), where he started in 2014. Overall, he has 44 years of experience in the industry. Hughes described his five years at TIACA as „amazing“ and noted that the time has „flown by.“ He stated that he does not have a fixed date for his departure and that he will support the board during the succession process.
Key Responsibilities of the Director General
The Director General of TIACA serves as the Chief Executive Officer and works under the guidance of the board. Key responsibilities include overseeing the association’s business operations and ensuring financial and operational success. The Director General is responsible for implementing TIACA’s vision and strategy, developed in collaboration with the executive committee and approved by the board. Additionally, he is accountable for executing agreed-upon projects and programs, as well as providing comprehensive operational and financial reports.
In addition to strategic implementation, the Director General is also responsible for developing and implementing a commercial action plan. This plan aims to ensure that TIACA remains relevant, attractive, and financially sustainable by achieving or exceeding revenue targets and identifying new revenue sources. The position requires a leader with proven experience in team leadership, managing complex stakeholder relationships, and navigating the evolving air cargo landscape.
Applicants should possess strong leadership skills, extensive knowledge of the air cargo industry, and experience in the governance of trade associations and financial oversight. Additionally, the ability to represent the association with authority at international events and in the media is required.
