Jan 27, 2026 at 9:31 AMA study by the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) has shown that a novel fuel treatment technology from Fuelre4m can enable savings in fuel consumption and emissions for existing shipping fleets. The results of independent tests demonstrate that this technology is both cost-effective and quickly implementable, without requiring extensive modifications to the existing vessels, as Fuelre4m reports.
Under controlled test conditions, where the engine speed and load were kept constant, fuel consumption could be reduced by 3.5 to 6.7%. This means that the treated fuel delivers more usable energy per unit consumed. In real operational scenarios, tests indicate an even greater increase in efficiency, according to the company. Independent measurements have shown improvements in propulsion efficiency of 21% or more.
„Fuel remains one of the most significant cost factors in shipping operations. Reducing consumption brings immediate economic and ecological benefits,“ said Rob Mortimer, CEO of Fuelre4m.
