Jan 14, 2026 at 9:07 AMDie Grimaldi Group recently inaugurated the ship „Grande Manila“ in Shanghai. The ceremony marks the delivery of the seventh ammonia-ready vessel of the Italian shipping company. The ship was built by Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding Company Limited (SWS) and China Shipbuilding Trading Company Limited (CSTC), both of which are part of China State Shipbuilding Corporation Limited (CSSC). With a length of 200 m, a width of 38 m, and a gross tonnage of approximately 77,500 t, the „Grande Manila“ is designed for the transport of vehicles. Additionally, the ship can also carry other types of rolling cargo.
The „Grande Manila“ has a capacity of 9,241 CEU (Car Equivalent Units) and features four decks that can accommodate heavy loads of up to 250 t and heights of up to 6.5 m. The naming of the ship honors the capital of the Philippines and additionally the maritime community of the country. Furthermore, the name reflects the growing importance of the Philippines within the Grimaldi Group’s network. Recently, Grimaldi introduced a new service that connects China with the port of Batangas every two weeks. Moreover, Grimaldi plans to expand its presence in other Philippine ports, such as Manila.
