Sep 4, 2025 at 5:14 PMROCKWOOL, the world’s leading provider of stone wool insulation, has commissioned Swisslog to implement a fully automated high-bay warehouse (HRW) at its production site in Neuburg an der Donau. With this strategic investment, ROCKWOOL is advancing the global modernization of its logistics and sustainably reducing manual processes.
With 51 production sites in more than 40 countries and approximately 12,200 employees worldwide, ROCKWOOL is continuously growing. An automated high-performance solution was needed at the continuously operated site in Neuburg to efficiently support the new production line. Swisslog’s integrated solution now provides the necessary efficiency, flexibility, and reliability for ROCKWOOL’s growing demands.
Global Growth through Intelligent Automation
The automation specialist Swisslog will implement a fully integrated logistics solution, including a high-bay warehouse with 35,000 pallet spaces and a total capacity of 53,000 Euro pallets. Eight double-deep Vectura S40 stacker cranes and a fully automated pallet conveyor system ProMove will be used, seamlessly integrated into the existing picking and packaging area.
The project scope also includes structural measures above the floor slab, roof and facade cladding, technical building equipment (power supply, climate and lighting systems), as well as fire protection systems. The entire operation will be controlled in the future by Swisslog’s SynQ warehouse management software, ensuring seamless coordination and complete real-time transparency.
The new automated warehouse makes external storage spaces unnecessary, minimizes manual interventions, and enables a completely touchless management of production pallets. Furthermore, it shortens truck loading times, improves delivery quality, and significantly reduces dependence on forklifts.
A Partnership Built on Trust and Competence
The project is an impressive testament to the strong and steadily growing partnership between ROCKWOOL and Swisslog, paving the way for future collaborations. At the same time, ROCKWOOL is consistently advancing the global expansion of its automation.
“The early involvement of Swisslog in our budgeting phase immediately gave us the feeling of being in the right hands. Swisslog not only understood our operational requirements but translated them into a solution that ideally supports our long-term direction – with noticeably more efficiency, significantly fewer manual interventions, and a clear step towards holistic automation,” explains Oliver Mohr, Project Manager at ROCKWOOL.
Construction Start in February 2026
“Our collaboration with ROCKWOOL is an outstanding example of a lived partnership. It is based on mutual trust, shared goals, and a deep understanding of the requirements and expectations of each individual. In an open and ambitious dialogue, we challenge each other and consistently focus on sustainable impact in all areas of this extensive investment project. We are proud to contribute our logistical and technological expertise to a solution that not only addresses ROCKWOOL’s future requirements but will also serve as a central solution within the entire logistics network, positively impacting ROCKWOOL’s overall supply chain performance,” says Sven Borghoff, Vice President Sales – Integrated Solutions EMEA Central at Swisslog. The construction start at the Neuburg site is planned for February 2026.
