Apr 29, 2025 at 7:22 PMVolvo Trucks has now delivered over 5,000 battery-electric trucks to customers in 50 countries worldwide. With eight electric truck models currently in production, Volvo’s leadership position in the electric truck sector is stronger than ever.
(Ismaning) Since 2019, Volvo Trucks has been offering electric trucks. Customers in 50 countries worldwide have since switched to electric transport, covering almost 170 million kilometers in commercial use. These trucks have not only reduced CO₂ emissions and traffic noise but have also improved the working environment for drivers.
“It is encouraging to see that transport companies continue to leverage the benefits of electric trucks across various transport segments,” says Roger Alm, President of Volvo Trucks. “Our battery-electric trucks are already available today and provide our customers with a more sustainable and economically viable alternative. Many of our customers then come back to us to further expand their electric fleets.”
Volvo’s current offering of electric trucks is tailored to the needs of urban and regional distribution as well as the construction and waste segments. The five key markets for electric trucks are Germany, the Netherlands, the United States, Norway, and Sweden.
Volvo Trucks’ early entry into the electric truck segment has led to unique expertise in emissions-free electric transport. The benefits of electric trucks go beyond environmental aspects – drivers benefit from a significantly improved working environment with considerably less noise and vibration. Additionally, Volvo has developed competencies in optimizing energy utilization, financing, charging, and maintenance of electric trucks.

Volvo’s three-pronged strategy towards zero emissions
Volvo Trucks is pursuing a three-pronged technology strategy to drive the transition to a fossil fuel-free transport system and achieve its net zero emissions target by 2040. The three-pronged strategy is based on battery-electric, fuel cell electric, and combustion engines powered by renewable fuels such as green hydrogen (produced by splitting water into hydrogen and oxygen using renewable electricity), biogas, biodiesel, or HVO (hydrogen-treated vegetable oil).
