May 29, 2023 at 4:35 PMThe Eco Performance Award 2023 is over, the winners and finalists have been announced and honored. In a series, Loginfo24 presents the winners and finalists. Today, the Transgourmet Deutschland GmbH & Co. OHG, finalist of the Eco Performance Award 2023 in the category of large companies.
(Riedstadt) Ecological, innovative, practical – with the concept of Green Logistics, the food wholesaler Transgourmet was able to convince the jury of the Eco Performance Award and is among the finalists in the large company category. Ultimately, they narrowly lost in the final to the Seifert Logistics Group from Ulm.
Every transport consumes energy and produces a CO2 footprint. To minimize environmental impact, Transgourmet has been implementing additional measures since October 2022 as part of the “Green Logistics” project to consistently reduce transport emissions and is the first food wholesaler in Germany to supply all customers in a climate-neutral manner. Efficient climate protection is ensured through three steps:
Avoiding Resupply with Optimizations
The most climate-friendly transport is the one that does not take place. Therefore, Transgourmet optimizes its logistics services and availability in the first step to reduce resupplies. Customers are also encouraged to voluntarily save on delivery stops and thus contribute to climate protection. Additionally, for every customer willing to forgo a few stops, a tree will be planted in Germany.
Transitioning Fleet to Alternative Drives
To keep the ecological footprint of ongoing tours as small as possible, the company is gradually transitioning its fleet to alternative drive systems such as biogas-powered trucks. Currently, 90 biogas trucks are already in use at Transgourmet, and by the end of the year, the fleet is expected to expand to 150 vehicles. Other alternative drives, such as electric vehicles, are also being evaluated.

Compensating Through Selected Climate Protection Projects
The remaining amount of CO2 is compensated by the company through the promotion of selected climate protection projects in cooperation with myclimate. All projects are Gold Standard certified, ensuring that greenhouse gas emissions are actually reduced to the intended extent. It is also ensured that the projects are beneficial for the local environment and the social concerns of the population.
With Green Logistics, the company achieves a new milestone on its way to becoming the most sustainable wholesaler in the industry. Not only in the area of transport does Transgourmet pursue a holistic sustainability strategy. Other projects, such as the organic private label Transgourmet Natura introduced in 2021 or the steadily growing plant-based range from Plant-based, make the company a pioneer in food wholesale. Furthermore, Transgourmet is already addressing agricultural production and is promoting the transition of selected farms from conventional to organic farming with the initiative “The Organic Enablers.”
Transgourmet focuses on sustainability not only in transport but also in products, e.g., organic apples
For its commitment – also in the area of consulting on topics such as reducing food waste or sustainable meal planning – Transgourmet has been awarded multiple times, most recently by PETA with the Vegan Food Award in the category “Best Vegan Brand” for the private label Plant-based.
