(CHC), Lufthansa Cargo continues to support the charitable projects of the non-profit organization, which has been helping people in need in Kenya for over 15 years. Thanks to two recent initiatives by Lufthansa Cargo, a total of 10,841 euros can currently be donated to Cargo Human Care.
(Frankfurt) On one hand, Lufthansa Cargo raised a donation amount of 5,841 euros during an internal Clean Up Day on December 1, 2022. This amount is intended to benefit the orphanage “Mothers’ Mercy Home” located 20 kilometers north of Nairobi, where up to 120 children live and receive both medical care and educational support.
In addition, Lufthansa Cargo is supporting an educational sponsorship with an additional donation of 5,000 euros for 19 students in the Kenyan village of Karare near Marsabit in the north of the country. The local school “Wings Academy” has been in operation for ten years based on the initiative of CHC. Recently, proceeds from an office city run in the summer of 2022 enabled the financing of accommodations for the students on-site. The current focus is to enable 19 eighth-grade children to attend a four-year secondary school.
Locally Producing Hygiene Products
Furthermore, the initiative supports providing young girls from the catchment area of two schools in Marsabit County with reusable “Sanitary Bags.” Additionally, opportunities will be created to produce these hygiene products locally in the future. The donation amount comes from the proceeds of the sale of merchandising products from the Lufthansa Cargo fan shop, including airplane models and branded clothing. New product designs for an upcycling collection have also been created from former cargo containers and straps for the first time.
Better Future Opportunities Through Education
“I am very pleased with the great support that Cargo Human Care receives from dedicated Lufthansa Cargo colleagues,” emphasizes Fokko Doyen, founding member and 1st chairman of Cargo Human Care e.V. “The people in the remote regions of Kenya that we visit regularly rely on our help. Drought and limited availability of aid supplies significantly complicate life for the people there. Only through education do children from this region have a chance for a better future, which is why we are using the current donation exclusively for the orphanage, for educational sponsorships, and to provide young girls with hygiene products so they can continue to participate in classes regularly.”
For over 15 years, Cargo Human Care has been committed to aid projects in Kenya. The association was founded by Lufthansa Cargo employees and doctors from Germany. Since then, they have managed to establish an orphanage, a medical station, and a youth home, thereby promoting educational opportunities and ensuring medical care in remote and low-income regions of Kenya. Doctors regularly travel with the support of Lufthansa Cargo to Nairobi to provide assistance at the Medical Center.
