Digital Freight Forwarder Flexport Opens Location at Frankfurt Airport
Nov 17, 2022 at 3:06 PMThe traditional premium manufacturer of turned and milled parts as well as precision engineering components, August Weckermann, is expanding and building a new production facility at its company location in Eisenbach, Baden-Württemberg. Here, the company aims to significantly approach a modern energy concept of the “Green Factory.” To sustainably optimize the material flow, August Weckermann has ordered an automatic small parts warehouse (AKL) from Jungheinrich. The turnkey handover is planned for summer 2023.
(Hamburg/Eisenbach) The single-aisle AKL has more than 10,000 storage locations and is equipped with picking workstations at both the front and the side of the shelves. In the 60 x 4.2 x 7.3 m large warehouse, work will be carried out five days a week in the future. Even in single-shift operation, Jungheinrich’s automation solution proves to be the most efficient option. “Our offer has convinced in terms of process speed, capacity, and energy efficiency,” says Claus Bode, project manager ASRS at Jungheinrich. The overall solution also includes the Jungheinrich Warehouse Management System (WMS), which will be integrated into August Weckermann’s existing IT environment. The flexible connection option of the WMS to the existing host system was of central importance during the awarding of the contract. “Jungheinrich presented various scenarios for the interface connection in advance and advised us flexibly and openly,” explains Jens Schuler, project manager at August Weckermann. “Ultimately, the comprehensive WMS for warehouse management convinced us.”
Important Step Towards Automation
For the traditional company August Weckermann, which previously only used automatic storage lifts for small parts at various points along the production line, the new AKL represents an important step towards automation, and Jungheinrich is the right partner to accompany this step. “Jungheinrich has suitable automation solutions in its portfolio for every company size. We provide exactly the intralogistics that our customers need. Turnkey and all from a single source,” emphasizes Bode.
