With the action ‘Hamburg says Thank You’, logistics heroes are honored
Sep 21, 2021 at 5:35 PMThe logistics sector is growing, and with it, the demands on employees in the industry. Therefore, Dachser continues to invest consistently in the training of future specialists and managers. At the start of the training year, the logistics service provider welcomed 583 new trainees and 30 students in Germany this year.
Ob as a supplier of food to the population, goods to the economy, or medical supplies to hospitals and doctors’ offices – logistics has been a hot topic since the beginning of the pandemic and is considered systemically relevant. The employees of Dachser have succeeded with great skill and commitment in keeping the supply chains of the economy running and making an important contribution to society with their logistics expertise.
The logistics industry was able to improve its image during the crisis and has become more attractive on the job market with its stable, future-oriented jobs. “Because many job fairs were canceled, and there were only a few information events and internship opportunities, the recruitment phase this year was still challenging,” says Vera Weidemann, Head of Corporate Human Resources at the logistics service provider Dachser. She is therefore even more pleased that around 600 young, talented individuals have been recruited for a start to their professional lives at Dachser in Germany. Among the starters are also 90 professional drivers. This profession has come into particularly positive focus in the public eye due to the Corona pandemic.
Responsibility for Promoting Young Talent
Even though, according to the Federal Employment Agency, 32,000 fewer young people applied for training positions nationwide, and many training places remained unfilled as a result, Dachser is satisfied with its training situation this year. “Despite all challenges, we remain committed to our responsibility for promoting young talent, as well-trained employees are the foundation of our business,” says Burkhard Eling, CEO of Dachser. “Our trainees and students have also achieved great things in the past one and a half years, worked with high motivation, and contributed to the success of the company,” Eling continues. “At all times, we have managed to fulfill our performance and quality promises to customers and partners. We owe this primarily to the commitment of our employees.”
As a family-owned company, Dachser traditionally places great value on high-quality training with appropriate knowledge transfer and support. The training quota is about ten percent. Currently, there are 1,699 young talents in training or studying at Dachser across all year groups. With 283 starters, the commercial employees for freight forwarding and logistics services are the most represented among the newcomers, followed by the warehouse specialists with 121 beginners.
