(Bonn) DHL Express Germany supports the organization Technik ohne Grenzen e.V. in aid shipments to combat the Covid-19 pandemic in India. The logistics provider has recently transported 15 pallets with 115 oxygen concentrators and various other aid supplies free of charge. Initiated by the German project ‘Toranam – sustainable agriculture in South India’, which aims to improve cultivation methods and the income situation of small farmers on-site in collaboration with Indian NGOs, Technik ohne Grenzen e.V. has raised donations and urgently needed equipment.
“India is currently particularly hard hit by the second wave of the coronavirus, which often overloads hospitals and depletes oxygen supplies. We also know from our DHL colleagues on-site how critical the situation is,” says Markus Reckling, CEO of DHL Express Germany. “With locations in over 220 countries and territories, it is our essential task to connect people and improve lives. Therefore, we immediately committed to facilitating the transport within our express network so that the equipment can save lives on-site as quickly as possible.”
Distribution by the NGO Smile Trust – Mercy Angels
The oxygen concentrators sent to India can enrich oxygen from the ambient air. They will be handed over along with other aid supplies such as 5000 FFP-2 masks and breathing gas humidifiers to makeshift hospitals in the Bangalore region. The local distribution will be handled by the partner project Smile Trust – Mercy Angels, a coalition of more than 15 NGOs that are entirely funded by donations.
“At this point, we would like to thank DHL Express for the generous donation and the company’s employees for their tireless efforts in implementing this. This collaboration shows what can be achieved together as partners even in a crisis,” summarizes Christin Hollweck on behalf of the members of the Toranam project.
