Oct 21, 2020 at 7:26 AMThe Fraunhofer Institute for Material Flow and Logistics IML and Dachser SE are extending their collaboration within the framework of the DACHSER Enterprise Lab for another three years. The focus of the partnership remains on research and development projects with practical application benefits for the Dachser network. This includes digital technologies such as Data Science and Artificial Intelligence (AI), RTLS (Real-Time Locating System), 5G and IoT (Internet of Things), autonomous vehicles, and adaptive warehouse systems.
(Kempten / Dortmund) – “The goal of the joint research work in the DACHSER Enterprise Lab is initially to understand new technologies and their potential for logistics in detail. Based on this, we develop prototypes and concepts that provide concrete added value for Dachser and our customers, thus leading to innovation,” explains Stefan Hohm, Corporate Director Corporate Solutions, Research & Development at Dachser, who will take over the new board department of IT & Development on January 1, 2021. “The previous collaboration has proven that research results from the DACHSER Enterprise Lab can be transformed into new processes and services across the entire logistics network,” says Hohm.
Effective Collaboration Despite Corona
“We are pleased that Dachser continues the collaboration with Fraunhofer IML. The previous research results, as well as the new research assignments, demonstrate how important applied research is for logistics and supply chain management,” says Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Michael ten Hompel, Managing Director of the Fraunhofer IML. “We are particularly proud that the lab teams have continued to work effectively even during the restrictions imposed by the Corona pandemic. Technical tools such as video conferences and collaboration tools certainly help. Above all, however, the high commitment and motivation of all employees of the DACHSER Enterprise Lab are crucial for research success in challenging times,” says ten Hompel.
Start of the Partnership in 2017
In the DACHSER Enterprise Lab, Dachser logistics experts and scientists from Fraunhofer IML work in mixed lab teams on various research and development assignments. The partnership between the logistics service provider and the research institute started in October 2017 and will now run until October 2023.
