Apr 13, 2026 at 12:41 PMCEVA Logistics has enabled a significant step in agricultural trade between Uganda and China. In a first-time shipment, approximately 11 tons of high-quality dried chili peppers were transported from Kamuli in Uganda to Shanghai. This shipment opens a new export channel for Ugandan farmers.
The delivery included 434 bags of carefully selected dried chili peppers, packed in a single 40-foot container. In total, the chili peppers weighed more than 14,000 kg. This shipment is the result of three years of intensive work, which included planting, harvesting, quality testing, and building relationships between Uganda and China. A key factor in realizing these exports is the new zero-tariff agreements that improve the economic framework for such transactions.
Logistical Challenges Overcome
CEVA Logistics managed the entire logistics for this significant shipment. The container was initially transported overland from Kamuli to the port of Mombasa in Kenya before being shipped by sea to Shanghai. In addition to transportation, CEVA also handled the complete export processing to ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements and to facilitate a smooth passage through international customs authorities.
This new export channel holds great potential for Uganda’s agricultural sector. By connecting local farmers with the rapidly growing Chinese market for specialty agricultural products, new economic opportunities are created. Furthermore, Uganda is positioning itself as an emerging competitor in the global market for dried chili peppers, paving the way for future agricultural exports.
