The Dutch provider of wind-assisted ship propulsion systems, Econowind, has ventured into the deep-sea market with the introduction of its new „VentoFoil“ model from the 5 series. The 30-meter-long steel suction wing system was recently presented in Heeg and is based on the principles of the 3 wing, as the company reports.
According to the manufacturer, the 5 series targets operators of deep-sea vessels looking for ways to reduce fuel consumption and improve compliance with regulations. The market entry with this new model follows the sale of over 150 suction wings for various types of ships. Econowind sees itself established in the markets of short-sea and regional shipping and is now aiming to serve larger vessels and longer trade routes. The company considers the potential for fuel savings through wind-assisted propulsion systems to be particularly advantageous.
The first installation of the 5 series is planned for this summer on a vessel from Boomsma Shipping. This order represents the commercial debut of the new model and, according to Econowind, demonstrates the continued confidence of the Dutch shipowner in the „VentoFoils.“
