Rising diesel prices burden transport companies
Apr 10, 2026 at 8:52 AMThe Federal Express Corporation (FedEx) has expanded its air freight offerings for German shippers. With new options, the company aims to better meet the needs of its customers while increasing flexibility for international shipping. The new services are designed to maximize speed within Europe and provide cost-effective solutions for overseas shipping.
Expansion of the International Priority Freight Service
The updated FedEx International Priority® Freight (IPF) Service targets businesses that ship heavy and time-sensitive B2B shipments within Europe. Improvements in the network now allow for more shipments to be delivered the next day in numerous European countries. This leads to shortened „time-to-market“ cycles for shippers and aims to ensure high reliability.
Additionally, FedEx offers the International Deferred Freight (FDF) Service, which is aimed at customers who wish to ship less time-sensitive air freight from Germany to the USA and Asia, including China, Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore, Australia, South Korea, Thailand, and Vietnam. This service is designed to provide a cost-effective solution and is available in various options, including Door-to-Door and Airport-to-Airport. The transit time for shipments is typically two business days longer than the economy solution FedEx International Economy® Freight (IEF), with delivery occurring on a specific day.
Both services, IPF and FDF, are designed for shipments starting at a weight of 68 kg, making them particularly suitable for heavy, palletized freight.
Stefan Dries, Vice President Ground Operations Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and Benelux at FedEx, emphasizes the need for shippers to respond flexibly to their customers‘ requirements. „With IPF, we deliver shipments to many European countries within a day. This effectively makes freight and pallets within Europe as fast as packages. For customers who need a cost-effective solution for less time-sensitive air freight to overseas destinations, FDF is recommended. The service is also a real alternative for shippers who have relied on traditional freight forwarders,“ explains Dries.
