Changes in the leadership of Turkish Airlines
Apr 10, 2026 at 8:19 AMThe Spanish Air Europa Cargo has extended its agreement with Worldwide Flight Services (WFS), a company of the SATS Group, for an additional five years. This partnership includes the handling of cargo management services at the airports in Madrid and Barcelona. WFS received its first contract with Air Europa Cargo in 2018 in Madrid and expanded the collaboration to Barcelona in January 2021. The continuation of this cooperation allows Air Europa to strengthen its position in the cargo business at both locations.
In Madrid, WFS handles cargo for up to 350 Air Europa flights per week, serving other Spanish cities as well as key European destinations. Additionally, daily flights to the USA and South America are offered. In Barcelona, WFS manages over 25 flights per week for Air Europa Cargo, which operates a fleet of Boeing 737 and B787 aircraft.
Strategic partnership to promote growth
Jordi Piqué, Managing Director of Air Europa Cargo, emphasizes that the collaboration with WFS is crucial for the company’s growth strategy. “The relationship with WFS means having the right specialized partner by our side who shares our vision for the future, based on the implementation of the latest technologies and the continuous improvement of processes. The collaboration between Air Europa Cargo and WFS is based on the constant pursuit of operational efficiency and the provision of the highest quality service and safety,” Piqué explained. “The new agreement will allow us to continue this approach and strengthen and continuously improve the cargo services across the airline’s network, serving a variety of routes not only on the European continent but also to strategic destinations in America.”
Humberto Castro, Managing Director of WFS in Spain and Italy, also commented on the partnership: “We are proud to be a strategic partner of Air Europa Cargo and look forward to supporting the growth of the airline’s cargo business in Madrid and Barcelona over the next five years.”
WFS operates five cargo warehouses in Madrid with a total area of 17,000 m² and processes over 500,000 tons of cargo annually for more than 30 airlines. The Spanish airport authority AENA has recently provided WFS with a plot of land on which a sixth cargo facility is to be built at the airport by 2028. In Barcelona, WFS serves over 20 airlines and processes more than 140,000 tons of cargo annually in its 12,000 m² facility.
