Apr 9, 2026 at 12:53 PMThe Texas-based MRO and P2F company Mammoth Freighters has received approval from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) for the 777-200LRMF (Long Range Mammoth Freighter). This certification represents a significant advancement in the program to convert wide-body freighters. The approval confirms the design, technology, and performance of the aircraft, allowing its use in commercial air traffic.
The 777-200LRMF offers a combination of range, payload efficiency, and operational reliability, making it a versatile solution for global freight networks. Bill Tarpley, CEO of Mammoth Freighters, emphasizes that this certification is the result of years of disciplined engineering work and close collaboration with the FAA. “The approval of the 777-200LRMF underscores the strength of our technical approach and our ability to deliver a powerful freighter that meets the evolving demands of freight operators worldwide,” says Tarpley.
Partnerships and market development
Jordan Jaffe, CEO of Jetran, the first customer of the 777-200LRMF, describes the approval as an important moment for both companies. “From the very beginning, we had great confidence in Mammoth’s engineering team and their vision for the program. The quality and technical execution of the aircraft have met our high expectations and reflect the strength of the underlying design,” explains Jaffe. He is convinced that Mammoth’s conversion represents a competitive option in the long-haul freighter market and will provide significant value to Jetran’s customers, including DHL, Qatar Airways, and Ethiopian Airlines.
Drew McKnight, Co-CEO and Managing Partner at Fortress Investment Group, highlights that the FAA approval underscores the success of the company, which was founded five years ago. “This certification is an excellent example of the collaboration between the private sector and the FAA to strengthen U.S. aviation and build a great American company,” adds McKnight. With a fully integrated, U.S.-based production platform, Mammoth Freighters is designed to meet the ongoing global demand for freighter aircraft in the coming decades.
The 777-200LRMF program is based on the proven Boeing 777 platform and integrates Mammoth’s proprietary conversion design. Key features include the largest main deck cargo door in its class, a reinforced floor structure, and an advanced, flexible cargo management system. Combined with range and fuel efficiency, the aircraft is optimized for both long-haul and regional freight operations.
The company is also working on its 777-300ERMF program and expects FAA certification for this variant later this year.
