Apr 7, 2026 at 10:20 AMThe Indian Register of Shipping (IRS) has announced a realignment of its leadership team to strengthen organizational capabilities and support the growth of the organization. These measures are being implemented in the context of a rapidly changing maritime environment characterized by increasing regulatory demands, technological developments, and a global focus on sustainability.
As part of this realignment, Saikat Roychowdhury (photo) has been appointed Chief Operating Officer (COO). In this role, he will take over overall operational management and, together with the Management Representative, oversee internal and external audit functions. H.V. Ramesh has been appointed head of the technical department and will lead the technical functions of the IRS to support innovation, quality assurance, and service delivery. Pavan Kumar Varma will serve as Management Representative and head of Quality, Health, Safety, and Environment (QHSE).
Arun Sharma, Executive Chairman of the IRS, commented on the changes, emphasizing the need to align the leadership structure with the strategic priorities of the company. He stated, “These appointments reflect our commitment to strengthening operational excellence and building a future-oriented organization. We are confident that this leadership team will play a crucial role in driving the next growth and value creation process of the IRS.”
The Indian Register of Shipping is currently experiencing sustained growth in its core and emerging service areas, underscoring the need for effective leadership and governance. The organization is a member of the International Association of Classification Societies (IACS) and provides classification and certification services as well as technical inspections.
