Logicor rents logistics space in Beaucaire
Apr 1, 2026 at 1:39 PMThe Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA), South Africa’s port authority, has awarded two significant concessions in the Maydon Wharf area of the Port of Durban to enhance food security in South Africa and improve competitiveness in global trade. These measures aim to mobilize approximately USD 60 million in private sector investments to modernize port infrastructure and solidify Durban as a strategic location for the export of agricultural products and perishable goods.
African Port Logistics and Infrastructure (Pty) Ltd, operating under the name KHOLD, has been selected as the preferred bidder to handle fresh produce and compatible breakbulk cargo. An investment of USD 14.9 million is planned for this project. Additionally, the BAL SA & Africa Global Logistics Consortium has been awarded the contract for the development and operation of a multipurpose terminal, with a committed investment of USD 48.2 million, which will handle agricultural dry bulk goods and other compatible cargo.
Capacity Expansion and Strengthening Supply Chains
The new concessions enable the two private operators to take on the financing, planning, construction, operation, and maintenance of the modernized terminal facilities. After the 25-year concession period, the facilities will be returned to the TNPA. These projects are expected to significantly increase handling capacities for fresh produce and agricultural dry bulk goods and strengthen supply chains from local farms to global markets.
In addition to the infrastructural improvements, a significant economic impact on the Southern African Development Community (SADC) region is also anticipated. Both preferred bidders have committed to promoting transformation and ensuring inclusive economic growth. This includes the involvement of smaller, Black-owned businesses and the creation of expanded opportunities for previously disadvantaged individuals.
Dr. Dineo Mazibuko, General Manager Commercial Services of the TNPA, stated: “These concessions not only respond to market demand but also support national priorities that enable the port to transform in line with Transnet’s ‚Reinvent for Growth‘ strategy. By unlocking such significant investments, we ensure that Maydon Wharf evolves into a modern, efficient, and automated logistics hub.”
The preferred bidders will now enter negotiations with the TNPA to finalize the Terminal Operator Agreements (TOAs). This governance process will mark the next steps in implementing these strategically significant developments.
