In his first statement as the new president, Blalock said, “It is an honor for me to join Gateway Terminals Savannah – a leading company in the stevedoring industry with best practices and high growth. The Port of Savannah is one of the fastest-growing ports in the country, and I look forward to helping our customers gain more business by delivering top-notch operations.”
Strategic Importance of the Georgia Ports Authority
The Georgia Ports in Savannah and Brunswick are considered strategic gateways that contribute to the most competitive supply chains in the country. These ports are distinguished by their operational efficiency, connectivity, and the overall supply chain ecosystem. Georgia has been ranked as the best state for business for twelve consecutive years, creating a unique business model for growth. The Port of Savannah sees 40 vessel calls weekly, 42 double-stack trains, and 14,000 truck movements daily. The Port of Brunswick is the leading RoRo port in the U.S. for logistics in the automotive and machinery sectors and has recently invested over $262 million in upgrades.
The Georgia Ports Authority plans to invest nearly $5 billion over the next ten years to create five new large container ship berths in Savannah and a fourth RoRo berth in Brunswick. Over the past ten years, the GPA has invested $3.2 billion in infrastructure improvements. As part of its community commitments, $6 million will be donated to port communities to support a multi-year local housing project that has helped 178 families in the Savannah region repair, purchase, or build their homes since September 2023.
