GEODIS’ plan with alternative energy
Mar 26, 2026 at 11:24 AMJapan Airlines (JAL) and Cargolux Airlines have announced a new partnership that will take effect on April 1, 2026. This collaboration includes the routes Narita–Luxembourg–Narita and Narita–Chicago–Narita. The two airlines aim to consolidate their networks and enhance air freight traffic between Asia and Europe as well as North America through this cooperation.
The roots of the relationship between JAL and Cargolux date back to 1994, when JAL supported the introduction of Cargolux services at Komatsu Airport. With the new partnership, JAL will offer codeshare flights on routes operated by Cargolux and provide interline transferred capacities on JL flights. This will enable both companies to offer their customers an expanded range of air freight services.
Expansion of Air Freight Services
According to Yuichiro Kito, Executive Officer of the Cargo and Mail Division at JAL, the partnership will help meet the high demand for air freight traffic between Asia and Europe as well as North America. “By collaborating with Cargolux, we have secured scheduled cargo space capacities on key European routes, allowing us to build a more stable air freight network,” Kito explained. The cooperation is expected to enable JAL to extend its high-quality cargo services to a broader area in Europe, particularly in the Luxembourg region.
Pierandrea Galli, EVP for Commercial Planning at Cargolux, emphasized the significance of this partnership for both airlines. “Japan has long been an important market for Cargolux, and this collaboration with Japan Airlines represents a significant step for both airlines,” Galli stated. The new transatlantic routes complement Cargolux’s existing connections from Asia to North America and expand reach into strategic markets.
The planned flights are scheduled for the period from April 1 to September 30, 2026, with exact plans and schedules still subject to approval by the relevant authorities. Cargolux will act as the operating airline on these routes.
