Mar 24, 2026 at 1:55 PMAerCap Holdings N.V. has announced that the company has signed lease agreements with Ethiopian Airlines for two converted Boeing 777-300ERSF freighters. These aircraft, also known as „The Big Twin,“ will be the first of their kind to be operated in Africa. The delivery of the machines is scheduled for the second quarter of 2028.
Aengus Kelly, CEO of AerCap, expressed his pleasure at deepening the long-standing partnership with Ethiopian Airlines, which will be the first customer in Africa to operate this aircraft type. He emphasized that the Boeing 777-300ERSF offers significant cost efficiencies with a 25% higher capacity compared to the currently smaller twin-engine long-haul freighters. This will enable Ethiopian Airlines to further expand its growing cargo platform.
Mesfin Tasew, CEO of Ethiopian Airlines Group, stated that these aircraft would significantly enhance the airline’s cargo capacity and efficiency, promoting trade in the region. In light of the growing demand for air freight, Ethiopian Airlines reaffirmed its commitment to investing in modern and sustainable solutions to strengthen its position in the global cargo market.
