Mar 24, 2026 at 8:03 AMShipMonk has opened a new fulfillment center in Louisville, Kentucky, specifically designed for apparel brands. This facility is the first of its kind, exclusively focused on a single product category. With an area of 37,000 square feet and 60 loading docks, the new center aims to meet the unique demands of the apparel industry.
The challenges in apparel fulfillment are diverse. They include managing size and style variations, processing returns, and handling textiles on a large scale. According to Kevin Sides, CEO and co-founder of ShipMonk, it is crucial for partners to understand the complexity of each order. “Our merchant-centric approach means we design fulfillment the way brands actually need it,” Sides explained.
A Center for Specialized Solutions
The new fulfillment center serves not only as an order processing hub but also as an innovation center for developing new apparel-specific solutions. The infrastructure and workflows are designed to support the entire operational lifecycle of an apparel order. This includes optimized layouts for high SKU density, specialized receiving processes, and innovative return handling.
The facility also offers personalized services such as on-site embroidery and customized fulfillment services, which include labeling and packaging in poly bags. “Fulfillment should not hinder brands or require compromises,” Sides added. “When done right, it becomes a competitive advantage.”
Expanding a Proven Network
The new center expands ShipMonk’s existing location in Louisville, which serves as a central hub for shipping across the U.S. The central location allows for optimized shipping costs for a distributed customer base. ShipMonk’s campus approach promotes faster onboarding of new clients and provides the flexibility to adjust capacity based on demand. At full capacity, the facility is expected to employ around 250 staff, with most positions being newly created.
The opening in Louisville follows a year of growth and investment for ShipMonk, which focuses on complex categories where fulfillment quality impacts the customer experience. ShipMonk currently supports over 1,000 enterprise brands worldwide and invests more than $10 million annually in research and development to advance AI-driven technologies and real-time transparency for its merchants.
