Mar 23, 2026 at 4:27 PMA.P. Moller – Maersk has opened a new fully automated global and regional distribution center in Singapore. The facility, covering over 102,000 m² and known as World Gateway II, represents a significant expansion of the company’s contract logistics and e-commerce capabilities in the Asia-Pacific region. The opening was supported by the Singaporean government and aims to meet the growing demand from businesses utilizing Singapore as a regional or global distribution hub.
The new facility will handle a variety of products from different industries, including lifestyle, FMCG, retail, wellness, and technology. Singapore’s strategic location allows for efficient distribution of goods abroad, as the facility is situated close to key transport infrastructures such as Tuas Port and Changi Airport. Additionally, it is only a few kilometers away from Maersk’s existing regional distribution center, which spans 93,000 m².
Focus on Growth and Automation
Vincent Clerc, CEO of Maersk, emphasizes the importance of Singapore for the company’s global network and the opportunities available in Asia. „The opening of World Gateway II is another step in our rapidly growing integrated logistics business in the region,“ Clerc explains. The facility is expected to create around 500 jobs and has already achieved an occupancy rate of approximately 70%. Maersk has invested over 150 million USD in the development.
The state-of-the-art warehouse is equipped with advanced automation technologies, including a multi-shuttle system, an automated storage and retrieval system (ASRS), and autonomous robots for goods handling. These technologies aim to accelerate order fulfillment, reduce lead times, and improve accuracy by minimizing manual handling.
Chang Kee Seng, head of contract logistics at Maersk in Asia-Pacific, highlights that the doubling of warehouse space in Singapore is a sign of confidence in the market and customers. „The combination of size and advanced automation allows us to unlock new opportunities, particularly in valuable sectors such as luxury fashion,“ Seng states.
The new facility offers numerous advantages, including a height of 11 meters per floor, multiple loading docks, and a central location that ensures quick access to key transport hubs. Additionally, the warehouse is customs-bonded and equipped with a zero-GST storage option, allowing for tax deferral on non-dutiable goods.
